best time to visit Belgrade

The question, when is the best time to visit Belgrade, is a usual dilemma for most visitors when planning to travel wherever they go.

We all have different expectations, wishes and passions. That’s why it is difficult to suggest ‘best period’ without much thinking. All depends on what you are planning to do and see in Belgrade or in Serbia.

On the other hand, it also depends on how many days you have in mind to stay. I’m sure that not less important factor will be ‘what’s weather like in Belgrade’. Not all periods of the year, will be perfect to enjoy the white city appeal. Here you can get information about weather in Belgrade!

Maybe some topic regarding how many days you intend to stay in Belgrade will be helpful:

When is the best time to visit Belgrade?

Serbia does not have a sea, like Spain, Italy, Greece or nearby Croatia. For this reason, traditional travel seasons have no significant influence, if not due to weather conditions. It is important to note that in all seasons, accommodation prices will not vary significantly.

Anyhow, it would be wrong not taking in consideration the right travel season. Serbia has three main tourist seasons from low, mid and high season. You can’t  go wrong either season you decide on.

The shoulder season in Belgrade

If I were you, I would decide to visit both Belgrade and Serbia in shoulder season (April through mid-June and September through October).

This period is a perfect for a city break. It’s not cold but quite warm, but not hot, dry and very pleasant. Average temperature is 18 – 22 C. This season is ideal for all kind of activities whether you want to hike, ride a bike or just wandering around the city.

July and August in Belgrade

I wouldn’t ignore July and August. These two months can be very hot but city on two rivers, offer enough beaches to cool off. The city may seem at the first sight, emptied but not for long. Night clubs along the river will be a paradise place for full of life Belgrade nightlife.

I’ve already said that Serbia does not have a sea. Bust there are plenty of lakes and rivers. Belgrade has two big rivers and also its own sea – Belgrade Sea. It’s Ada Ciganlija lake, the most popular lake located just few minutes from the Belgrade down town area. This lake represents the most visited location during spring and summer. Find where’s Belgrade Sea!

Belgrade in October can be a rather nice, except that sometimes it can be rainy. I would say the same for November but rainy days will be more common.

Belgrade in December, January and February

I must be honest with you if you are planning to come in Belgrade in December, January and February.  If  I consider shoulder season the best time to visit Belgrade, I wouldn’t recommend these three winter months.

It’s the coldest period with a lot of snow. For skiing and snow lovers, instead to stay in Belgrade, skiing centers on Kopaonik (290 km from Belgrade) and Tara (180 km) mountains will be the right place.

If you really want to visit Serbia and Belgrade in winter, than plan the period of New Year and  Serbian New Year. There are a lot happenings on the streets and night clubs will warm you up.

No matter, what period you chose to visit Belgrade, this open heart city will welcome you with sincerity, and once you leave, you won’t  be able to wait to return.
